History of the island
Paleo Trikeri is a small, historic island with a long maritime tradition. It has been inhabited since ancient times and was an important naval station in Pelion. The island is known for the Monastery of Evangelistria, built in the 19th century, which was a spiritual and social center for the residents of the area.
During the civil war, the island was used as a place of exile for women and children of political prisoners, a historical memory that is still alive through testimonies and documents.
Today, Old Trikeri maintains its traditional character and remains a quiet place, without cars.
